2012 is here and we are pleased to have Mehmet Akar’s time to handle an interview. This is our first international interview here in MUZIK.gr and we are proud of it. Mehmet is a person we always wanted to learn about him and now, with the start of the new year, we believe that is the best time to do so. Mehmet Akar is a new rising star of progressive music scene. He is also known in Greece for his own productions. His work is admired by the most popular artists in his genre like: Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Nick Warren etc. Let’s learn more about him..
- Hello Mehmet, we are glad to have the opportunity to talk with you. There aren’t many people here in Greece that are aware about you, so would you mind of telling us some words about yourself?
Hello there, first of all I wanna thank you for giving me the chance to be part of your exclusive interviews. Then, about myself I can say that, I’m just a normal guy who loves flowers, birds… in a word, Im just a simple guy with a computer J
- Tell us your story, how you begun playing music and producing your own?
I’ve always been a music lover and at the beginning of the year 2000 I recorded my very first DJ set at home. I decided to upload it over the internet and received really good feedbacks and great number of downloads! I kept on spreading my sound and soon after some gigs at small venues followed which motivated me even more to keep giving my best and start seeking higher levels. After a 1-year disappearance for personal reasons I reappeared in 2009 on the music scene and pretty soon I was requested to start a show on Frisky radio. So month after month I was giving the best example of my most preferred sounds… and with this passion to the music came the desire to start working on my own production. In 2010 I had my 1st track released and…and this is how it goes… always working for the better… for the best..
- What inspires you as a producer?
I think loneliness is the best inspiration inside of me. Sometimes everything about life but nowadays my girlfriend inspires me a lot
- Which are your favorite artists?
Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Eelke Kleijn, Roger Martinez, Max Cooper, Tale of Us, Dosem and of course DJ Tarkan J
- When you are not at studio and you aren’t producing music, what kind of music you like to hear? Maybe rock?
I think, Electronic music is enough for all situations so I prefer different kinds of electronic music depending on my mood.
- Personally, I heard from you from your production of the track: Seni Seviyorum which, if I am correct, means “I love you” in English. Would you like to make a comment on this track? Also would you like to mention some other tracks that are productions of you?
“Seni Seviyorum” is so special track for me. It’s been first time a girl inspired me while making a track and I made a present for her.
- Which Greek producers are you aware of? Which is your opinion about Greek house music?
It’s been long time when I met Christos Fourkis’s tracks. Many times I played them in my radio sets and live shows and also Iam following other greek producers like Distant Fragment, Kosmos Epsilon, Dpen, Bobby Deep.
- What do you think about Greek night life? Are there similarities with Turkish one?
Actually I have no idea about Greek night life. I have never been to Greece. If u wonder, how is night life in Turkey, I would say that It’s not that bright in means of underground electronic music but still we have some cool electronic music events.
- If you weren’t born in Turkey, where else would you like to be born?
I love this country but I think most important thing is people around you but not geography
- What are your plans for future? How’d you like to see yourself in around 20 years from now?
Im still at beginning of my way. My future plan is to travel around world with my music as much as I can and Of course I will try to be in a good position in electronic music scene. While doing all these, I will keep my amateur soul and emotional musical sound. I won’t be a boring guy who loves and plays the same grooves, same tracks and makes something without soul!
- Do you think today’s technology is helping artists overall? Ok they are showing their work and people are getting aware of their productions and stuff, however, in the past, people used to buy albums, now they try to take them for free.
Of Course I can not support illegal music download Im also a music maker but I think Beatport is quite similar to those persons who download music illegaly. Because they are taking 50% just for selling the product – the other 50% are being shared between label and artist. I think it is crazy. Beatport is also killing producers, DJs, labels like the persons who look for music in blogs, forums etc.
- Where can people found you now? Are you playing on any club? Are you about to release any new track?
I would be in touch with everyone via my web sites www.mehmetakar.com you may also be directly linked to my official facebook fan page via this site. I’m happy to see that my fans are getting more and more everyday. I also share my new works on soundcloud.com/mehmetakar. As for playing in club, I usually play as a guest Dj at the different clubs in Turkey and other countries. For catching my live performance all my followers can kindly check my calendar also on my page.
And of course I work a lot on production and nowadays I’m focused on my forthcoming artist album. It’s gonna be massive! I’m trying to use killer techno basslines based on melodic progressive elements. My main intention is to bring a new excitement to the dance floors.
On the other hand, I continue to release single tracks and some remixes for different labels.
By the way, my 2 years old radio show called 2nd resurrection on Frisky radio is on every first Wednesday of the month at 06.a.m. pst, 15:00 Europe time and 16:00 Turkey and Greece.
- David Guetta is voted as number 1 deejay for 2011, what’s your reaction over it? Do you think it’s a fair result?
Well, it’s not a surprise for me as usually only commercial Djs are in the top of the list. I’m afraid to see Lady Gaga as a number one Dj of the next year J
- Did you vote on DJ MAG awards? Which were your selections about the first five deejays for this year?
Yes, but non of them is on the top list besides Hernan Cattaneo
- What do you think about our website (MUZIK.gr)?
I found it pretty nice since it’s a good opportunity for Greek clubbers to find all events and gives a chance to the audience in other countries to get the information about electronic music news.
- Thank you very much for your time, any last thing you want to mention to the readers of our music portal?
Thank YOU for the nice questions and it was a great pleasure to meet your readers. I hope to see you all there as soon as possible. Greetings from the neighbour J
